Studying in another country is one of the most common dreams among the region's youth, but more than just a trip, it is an opportunity that can change lives.
For many students, arriving in another country is not merely an academic adventure. It is, perhaps, the most important decision of their lives, as this step defines their personal, professional, and economic development. Hence the importance of selecting an exchange program that is verified and backed by local and international organizations.
Currently, there are calls for applications in every country through government organizations, embassies, and even options within local higher education institutions, allowing students to choose the studies they wish to pursue at international universities that fit their goals and where they believe they can fulfill their dreams.
For example, in Colombia, there is Fulbright Colombia, which promotes calls for cultural and educational exchange, where students find different alternatives to carry out some type of exchange in the United States. Some of the options include professional development stays, research, master's degrees, language studies, or other alternatives.
“Thanks to the Fulbright scholarship, I gained confidence in my role as an expert in solids modeling. Facing the challenge of moving to the United States with my family and adapting to a new reality for 6 months was a significant achievement. This scholarship has had a positive impact on my life by allowing me to update my knowledge in the field of atomic-level materials modeling using ab initio theories. I also achieved professional and personal enrichment that will last throughout my life,” revealed Sol Milena Mejía, a fellow of the Visiting Researchers program from Colombia - 2022 Cohort.
On the other hand, there is Colfuturo, another entity that launches permanent calls for forgivable loan for people who wish to pursue their studies abroad. “This is a way for Colombians to finance their master's or doctoral programs abroad. It is a loan that can be converted into a scholarship of up to 80 %,” explained Luisa Ayala, head of the counseling team at Colfuturo.
These types of calls are exclusively intended for studies conducted abroad. The maximum cap for this type of forgivable loan is 50,000 dollars and it can be forgivable up to a maximum of 80 %. To apply for 2026, the call opens starting January 6 and will end on March 2. The selected applicants will be announced on May 14.
Meanwhile, the Institute for the Training and Development of Human Resources (IFARHU) of Panama, which is dedicated to offering scholarships and financial assistance to students to promote the development of human capital in the country, also has several alternatives for those who wish to pursue studies in the United States.

Secure study programs do not just strengthen academic training; they also transform lives. This is why, when young people return, they do so with new intercultural skills, mastery of other languages, contacts, and, most importantly, a broader vision of the world. Undoubtedly, these experiences contribute directly to the development of the region, as every student who travels and returns to their country does so equipped with tools to contribute to innovation, competitiveness, and the creation of new projects.
In a world that moves faster every day and where knowing other cultures opens doors, these programs become a real support for young people to dream big and build a future without borders. Today, with more scholarships, reliable institutions, and alliances that accompany every step, studying or participating in an exchange in another country is safer and more accessible than ever.
